A delegation of Tanzanian investors is in Zambia to explore investment opportunities in manufacturing, agriculture, transport and logistics, with both countries seeking to deepen bilateral trade and unlock new partnerships under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Speaking at the Tanzania-Zambia Business Forum organised by the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) on Thursday, Commerce, Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary for Trade, Lilian Bwalya, said the targeted sectors were among the most strategic to Zambia’s economy due to their contribution to employment creation, industrialisation, food security, economic growth and regional trade.
In remarks delivered on her behalf by Director of Industry, Sichizuwe Musokotwane, Bwalya said the forum demonstrated the shared commitment of Zambia and Tanzania to strengthening commercial relations and creating new investment opportunities.
“We are particularly honoured to receive this distinguished business delegation from Tanzania led by the Chairperson of the Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber has played a significant role in promoting entrepreneurship, facilitating market access, advocating for business-friendly policies and empowering enterprises to participate meaningfully in national, regional and international trade,” she said.
Bwalya challenged businesses from both countries to move beyond discussions and forge concrete partnerships that will stimulate industrialisation and sustainable economic growth.
She added that the forum had been deliberately designed to prioritise business-to-business engagements, allowing companies to identify immediate trade prospects, establish long-term partnerships and pursue mutually beneficial investment ventures.
Representing the Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC), Anaty Kombesen, described the forum as an opportunity to build a modern, forward-looking partnership driven by commerce, innovation and enterprise.
Kombesen said TWCC continued to champion inclusive economic empowerment by providing targeted training, mentorship and capacity-building programmes that equip young people with the skills and mindset needed to become successful entrepreneurs and responsible leaders.
Meanwhile, Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, Antony Kabaghe, called for greater urgency in translating dialogue into tangible business outcomes.
Zambia Development Agency Director-General, Albert Halwampa, said there remains significant untapped potential for trade and investment between Zambia and Tanzania.
