Three suspects have been arrested in Nalolo District of Western Province in connection with a case of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm (OABH) following an incident of mob violence on March 31, 2026.
Police Spokesperson, Godfrey Chilabi, said the incident occurred around 22:30 hours at Mushukula Section in Muoyo Royal Village.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, Chilabi said the incident involved a 16-year-old female juvenile from Kandiana Village, Chief Nalopu’s area, who was accused by members of the community of allegedly stealing K200.
“In an attempt to recover the said money, the victim was subjected to severe physical assault by identified individuals, among them Likizo, Sililo, Monde, Muleta, other names unknown, and Mukela Mufalo, all of Mushukula Compound, Muoyo Royal Village,” Chilabi said.
Brief facts of the matter indicate that the victim had spent the night at a friend’s residence within the same locality.
“During her stay, money amounting to K200 was reported missing, and suspicion fell on her,” Chilabi said.
In the course of questioning, the situation escalated as the suspects began to physically assault her while accusing her of theft. The commotion attracted members of the public who joined in the assault, resulting in a mob attack.
Police officers swiftly responded to the distress call and rescued the victim, taking her into protective custody at Nalolo Police Station.

However, the mob turned hostile toward the officers, throwing stones and attempting to pursue the victim. To restore order and disperse the crowd, officers discharged warning shots.
“In the process, three suspects identified as Sitali Sitali (20), Mulemwa Wamundila (24), and Mukela Mufalo (19) were apprehended,” Chilabi said.
Investigations have been instituted, and efforts are underway to bring all other individuals involved in the assault to justice. The victim sustained injuries and was issued a medical report form, spending the night under police protection.
Chilabi condemned acts of mob justice and reminded members of the public that taking the law into their own hands is a criminal offence.
“Members of the public are urged to report suspected criminal activities to the police and allow due process of the law to take its course,” he said.
