Hichilema retains key officials in UPND national management committee

Hakainde Hichilema has retained several senior officials in the National Management Committee of the United Party for National Development (UPND) following the party’s recent General Assembly.

Those reappointed include Secretary General Batuke Imenda, National Chairman Collins Maoma, Chairperson for Legal and Constitutional Affairs Jack Mwiimbu, Chairperson for Elections and Campaigns Likando Mufalali, National Youth Chairman Gilbert Liswaniso, and Treasurer General Watson Lumba.

According to a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday, the appointments were contained in letters dated April 21, 2026, addressed to the respective officials and signed by Hichilema.

“The move is in line with the powers conferred on the party president under Article 56(4) of the UPND constitution,” the statement said.

Hichilema urged the appointees to continue serving the party and the country diligently.

“On behalf of the party, I wish to congratulate you for this well-deserved appointment,” he said.

The statement added that the appointments form part of an ongoing process to constitute the party’s National Management Committee, with additional announcements expected in the coming days.
