Police in Lusaka have arrested local musician Madalitso Phiri, popularly known as Dalitso Mwana Wakomboni, for drunk driving and several other traffic offences following a collision that left a presidential police motorbike extensively damaged.

Police spokesperson, Godfrey Chilabi, said the accident occurred on Monday, 27 April 2026, at around 23:00 hours along Mosi-oa-Tunya Road, opposite Puma Filling Station.

Inspector Kwibisa Mbuye, 39, who was riding a Zambia Police BMW motorbike with registration ZP 3050, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Maina Soko Military Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

Phiri, 42, of Chalala in Lusaka, was driving a Nissan Mitsuoka, registration BAB 5514, and escaped unhurt.

Chilabi said preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred when Phiri allegedly cut in front of the oncoming police motorbike, causing the collision.

Police have impounded the vehicle for examination, and Phiri has been formally charged and arrested.

He has been charged with dangerous driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a road licence or tax, driving without a fitness certificate, and driving without third-party insurance—all offences under the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002.

Chilabi said Phiri is expected to appear in court soon.
