NHIMA assures members of uninterrupted healthcare after reports of service withdrawal by private facilities

The National Health Insurance Management Authority has assured its members of continued access to healthcare services following Carepeak Specialist Clinic’s notice to withdraw its service from the platform.

NHIMA Head of Public Relations Kings Syacika said the authority had noted the public notice issued by Carepeak Specialist Clinic regarding its intention to discontinue offering health services to NHIMA members effective May 24, 2026.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday, Syacika said NHIMA currently works with over 400 accredited healthcare providers comprising public, private, and faith-based facilities nationwide.

He said while NHIMA respected the operational decisions of individual healthcare providers, the narrative being peddled on social media that private facilities had started withdrawing services due to non-payments was not true.

“We have not received any similar notifications and on the contrary, they are so many other private health care facilities wanting to accredit with NHIMA,” Syacika said.

He stated that NHIMA had in addition continued to receive hundreds of applications from private facilities seeking to be NHIMA accredited.

Syacika said the Authority had identified a few Lusaka-based private facilities who had been rationing the number of NHIMA patients to be seen daily and that this was being dealt with by the identified facilities.

“This matter and many other matters were dealt with constructively and amicably on Monday 27th April 2026 at NHIMA HQ, during a meeting between NHIMA Management and the Healthcare Federation of Zambia representing private facilities,” he said.

Syacika stated that the meeting was held to strengthen the relationship with the facilities and ensure sustainable healthcare delivery under the Scheme.

“We therefore wish to assure our members and the nation that the withdraw of one health care private facility should not be used to undermine the NHIMA mission of ensuring access to affordable and quality healthcare services for all Zambians,” he said.
