The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has approved 42 licences, five construction permits and several licence amendments valued at K608 million aimed at boosting Zambia’s energy infrastructure and service delivery.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by ERB Public Relations Manager, Namukolo Kasumpa, the approvals span the electricity, renewable energy and downstream petroleum subsectors, reflecting growing investor confidence in the country’s energy sector.

The approvals were granted during the ERB Licensing Committee meeting held on May 15, 2026.

In the downstream petroleum sector, the ERB authorised the construction of three new filling stations and approved the commissioning of two additional stations for operations.

“The board also licensed 49 fuel tankers to strengthen petroleum transportation and national fuel distribution. Further, the ERB approved 14 Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) retail kiosks to improve consumer access to cleaner energy products across the country,” Kasumpa said.

In the renewable energy sector, she said the board approved a licence for a 10-megawatt photovoltaic solar power plant by China Jiangsu International Green Energy Limited.

The ERB also issued 10 licences for the manufacture, supply, installation and maintenance of renewable energy equipment.

Kasumpa said all licences and permits were issued under the Energy Regulation Act No. 12 of 2019 to ensure compliance and sustainable development in the energy sector.

She added that the ERB remained committed to promoting operational efficiency, consumer protection and long-term sustainability in the regulation of the country’s energy industry.
