The Zambia Police Service in Senga Hill District, Northern Province, says it has launched investigations and intensified a manhunt following a murder incident that occurred on June 12, 2026, around 08:00 hours in Ilola Village.

Police received a report from Isaac Simfukwe, aged 32, who stated that his brother, Denis Simfukwe, aged 55, of the same village, was allegedly attacked and killed by named suspects.

Godfrey Chilabi, the Police Spokesperson confirmed this in a statement issued in Lusaka on Saturday.

Police officers visited and processed the scene, where they found the body of the deceased lying in a field.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was attacked after being accused of practicing witchcraft.

Simfukwe sustained serious injuries and died at the scene.

Chilabi said the body of the deceased was lying in the mortuary at Mbala General Hospital, pending a post-mortem examination.

“The suspects, who are currently at large, have been identified as Collins Sikapizye, Gaston Sikapizye, Shadrick Silutongwe, Vinyepe Sikapizye, Mamvuto Sikapizye, and one other unidentified individual, all from Ilola Village, Senga Hill,” he said.

Chilabi stated that efforts to apprehend them have been intensified and investigations into the matter are ongoing.

“The Zambia Police Service strongly condemns all forms of mob justice, particularly those arising from accusations of witchcraft, which continue to result in the loss of innocent lives, especially among elderly members of the community,” he said.

Chilabi warned that such accusations did not, under any circumstances, justify violence or taking the law into one’s own hands.

He further advised that all thkse found participating in mob justice, as well as acts of assault and murder committed in such circumstances, constitute serious criminal offence.

“Anyone found participating in, inciting, or supporting such acts will be arrested and prosecuted without exception, and will face the full force of the law,” Chilabi said.
