Temwa Chawinga starred once again as Malawi continued their impressive TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 campaign with a 3-1 victory over Egypt in Saturday’s Group C encounter.
Fresh from their shock victory over reigning champions Nigeria, the Scorchers produced another assured display to claim a second successive win and edge closer to the quarter-finals.
Egypt created the first real opening in the 16th minute when Christina Salama fired wide before Malawi responded through Faith Chinzimu, whose run in behind was halted by the advancing goalkeeper.
Chawinga soon tested Egypt with a powerful strike that was tipped behind before playing a decisive role in the opening goal in the 35th minute.
The forward laid off a perfectly weighted pass for Rose Kadzere, who finished from close range to give Malawi the lead.
The Scorchers doubled their advantage in the closing stages of the first half as Chinzimu reacted quickest to volley home after her initial header had been saved.

Egypt came out with greater intent after the break and were handed a lifeline when Rose Alufandika was sent off for fouling Habiba Hafez as she raced through on goal.
Despite being reduced to ten players, Malawi continued to threaten on the counter and extended their lead in the 68th minute.
Kadzere turned provider this time, delivering a clever assist for Chawinga, whose looping header beat the advancing goalkeeper.
Egypt responded almost instantly through substitute Eman Kassem, who made an immediate impact with a well-taken header.
The North Africans pressed for another goal but struggled to break down a disciplined Malawi defence, while the Scorchers remained dangerous on the counter that was led by the lively Chawinga.
The victory gives Malawi six points from two matches following their memorable win over the reigning champions, with a final Group C meeting against Zambia to come next Wednesday.
Egypt, meanwhile, will face the reigning champions needing a positive result to keep their qualification hopes alive.
