Hakainde Hichilema has maintained a lead over Brian Mundubile in Zambia’s presidential election, with the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) reporting consolidated results from 135 of the country’s 226 constituencies.
The consolidated figures show Hichilema with 1,544,140 votes, compared with 1,030,662 votes for Mundubile, giving Hichilema a lead of 513,478 votes.
The ECZ-reported results from individual constituencies showed Hichilema recording strong performances in several areas, including Mufumbwe, where he received 27,502 votes against Mundubile’s 807, and Mazabuka Central, where he polled 38,895 votes compared with Mundubile’s 3,410.
Hichilema also secured 24,492 votes in Bweengwa against Mundubile’s 129, while in Kazungula North he received 28,836 votes compared with Mundubile’s 104.
Mundubile, however, led in some constituencies, including Nchanga, where he received 22,090 votes against Hichilema’s 10,207, and Lima, where he polled 22,486 votes compared with Hichilema’s 8,578.
Mundubile also led Hichilema in Chasefu South, Bahati, Vubwi, Kasenengwa, Chifubu and Nchelenge, among others.
The latest figures represent results from 135 of 226 constituencies, with results from the remaining constituencies still to be consolidated and verified by the ECZ.
The Commission is responsible for the official verification and declaration of the final presidential election result.
