Medical for Quality Healthcare in Zambia (MQHZ) has called on the new Minister of Health to take decisive action against corruption in the ministry and investigate credible allegations involving public officials.
The group through Dr Quince Mwabu, said corruption undermined the effective use of public resources, weakens healthcare delivery and ultimately harms patients.
In a statement issued in Lusaka, Mwabu urged the minister to strengthen accountability, transparency and oversight across the health sector, saying credible allegations of corruption should be investigated and those found responsible held to account.
“There must be no room for corruption in the delivery of healthcare to Zambians,” Mwabu said.

Mwabu called for strong, reform-minded and results-oriented leadership to address persistent challenges in the health sector.
“When medicines are unavailable, patients suffer; when equipment is not functional, treatment is delayed; and when facilities are understaffed, health workers become overstretched and patients wait longer for care,” he said.
MQHZ, he said, expected the minister to remain connected to conditions on the ground and ensure persistent challenges affecting patients and health workers were addressed.
“The success of health-sector leadership should not be measured only by policies announced, budgets allocated, programmes launched or facilities constructed, but by whether a Zambian seeking healthcare can access safe, timely, affordable and quality care when and where it is needed,” Mwabu said.
