Health Minister Professor, Roma Chilengi, says the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) provides Zambia with a key platform to mobilise partnerships and resources to advance the country’s health priorities.
Chilengi said Zambia would use the high-level week in New York to engage international stakeholders on strengthening the health sector and supporting the government’s wider Grow Zambia Agenda.
He said the health sector’s focus under the agenda, as emphasised by President Hakainde Hichilema, was to advance Universal Health Coverage and strengthen frontline service delivery.
Chilengi said this after arriving in New York ahead of the UNGA81 High-Level Week, scheduled for September 22 to 28, 2026.
“The Grow Zambia Agenda is key in the health sector, as emphasised by President Hakainde Hichilema,” Chilengi said.

He said he would engage international partners on support for the Grow Zambia Agenda through partnerships and resource mobilisation for the health sector.
“The UN General Assembly gives Zambia an opportunity to fully engage stakeholders in the health sector,” he said.
Among the key engagements will be a high-level meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response, where Zambia will deliver a national statement focusing on equitable access, sustainable financing and stronger health systems.
He is also expected to participate in a high-level roundtable on African leadership and regional production of frontier AIDS and pandemic medicines, the Gavi Leap Dialogue on vaccine financing, and side events focusing on global public health architecture, maternal and child survival, school meals and climate-resilient primary healthcare.
