African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) says it has raised US$1.5 billion through a dual-tranche senior unsecured Eurobond, marking its first U.S. dollar public bond issuance since 2021, the lender said on Tuesday.
The issue comprises two $750 million tranches, with maturities of 5.5 years and 10 years, due in January 2032 and July 2036, respectively.
Afreximbank said the transaction attracted orders of about $3.8 billion from investors in the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia and the United States, making the offering about two times oversubscribed.

The bank said strong investor demand enabled it to tighten pricing by 37.5 basis points on both tranches, resulting in final yields of 6.25% for the 5.5-year notes and 7.125% for the 10-year notes.
The transaction marks Afreximbank’s return to the U.S. dollar public bond market after it raised funds through Japanese yen-denominated Samurai bonds in 2024 and 2025 and a Chinese yuan-denominated Panda bond in 2025.
Managing Director for Treasury and Markets and Group Treasurer, Chandi Mwenebungu, said the transaction reflected continued investor confidence in the bank and Africa’s economic prospects.
“This successful issuance shows the confidence that investors continue to place in Afreximbank and in Africa’s growth story. For us, this is a clear sign that the market continues to believe in Afreximbank’s work and in Africa’s economic prospects,” Mwenebungu said.
HSBC Bank plc reportedly acted as global coordinator, while Standard Bank of South Africa, Standard Chartered Bank, Commerzbank Aktiengesellschaft and MUFG Securities EMEA acted as joint lead managers and joint bookrunners.
