Opposition political party, Citizens First (CF) has called on the government, through the Bank of Zambia, to provide an update on the delayed circulation of the newly designed K100 and K50 banknotes—three months after the currency was officially launched.
On February 11, 2025, Bank of Zambia Governor, Dr. Denny Kalyalya, unveiled a new series of banknotes, including denominations of K500, K200, K100, K50, K20, and K10.

However, CF president Harry Kalaba said in a statement on Sunday that the K100 and K50 notes had yet to be delivered to the public, questioning why the central bank proceeded with the launch knowing that two key denominations would not be available promptly.
“As Citizens First, we are particularly concerned by information reaching us that the two notes in question—K100 and K50—may not be available until sometime in September this year,” Kalaba said.
He urged the Bank of Zambia to explain the reasons behind the prolonged delay and provide clear timelines for when the K100 and K50 notes will be introduced into circulation.
