Europa League: Spurs march on as Solanke strike seals semi spot for Tottenham

0

Tottenham kept their Europa League hopes alive with a gritty 1-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, securing a 2-1 aggregate victory to book their place in the semi-finals.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will now face Norwegian outfit Bodo/Glimt in the last four, after their dramatic penalty shootout win over Lazio.

In a match reported by Sky Sports, Spurs are aiming to reach their first European final since their 2019 Champions League defeat to Liverpool.

The pressure was mounting on Postecoglou heading into the second leg in Germany, following a dismal 4-2 defeat to Wolves that left their hopes of silverware and European qualification hanging in the balance.

But Tottenham responded with a resolute defensive display.

They kept Frankfurt quiet early on, before Dominic Solanke converted a penalty just before half-time after goalkeeper Kaua Santos collided with James Maddison.

Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Pedro Porro were key at the back, helping maintain the slim advantage, while Guglielmo Vicario—under recent scrutiny—produced a crucial save to deny Fares Chaibi’s close-range header.

Though not a polished attacking display, Spurs’ defensive commitment proved decisive.

Their season—and dream of ending a 17-year trophy drought—remains very much alive.

But the spotlight will stay on Postecoglou and his team, with a tough Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest looming on Monday, live on Sky Sports.
