The government has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive social protection through the National Social Protection Policy launched in March and currently under implementation.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Angela Kawandami, said the policy was designed to promote a life-cycle approach that systematically addresses vulnerabilities at different stages of life.
Kawandami made the remarks when she received a donation of assorted items worth US$20,000 from Coco Dao WEB3 Global Development Foundation, aimed at supporting vulnerable communities in Kaumbwe Constituency of Eastern Province.
She highlighted several ongoing government poverty reduction initiatives, including the Social Cash Transfer Programme, Food Security Pack, women empowerment programmes, and skills development projects.
“The government alone cannot reduce poverty levels. It requires the concerted efforts of all partners. We therefore value and embrace supplementary programmes that support the poor,” she stated in a statement released in Lusaka on Sunday.
Kawandami thanked the foundation for its timely support, noting that the donation would significantly complement government efforts to alleviate poverty and improve the livelihoods of vulnerable people.

Similarly, Kaumbwe Member of Parliament Dr. Aaron Mwanza expressed gratitude to the Ministry for selecting his constituency to benefit from the donation. He expressed optimism that the assistance would positively impact the lives of the poor in the area.
Meanwhile, the Foundation’s representative in Zambia, Ziji Xiao, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to continued collaboration with the Zambian government.
“Today’s donation is just the beginning. In the future, we aim to engage in comprehensive partnerships across key sectors such as education and healthcare, further contributing to Zambia’s prosperity and development,” Xiao said.
