The government has signed a US$76.1 million concession agreement with Jaswin Ports Limited to develop the 61 kilometers of the Mufulira-Sakania-Ndola road project.

Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Minister, Charles Milupi, said the road would be constructed under the Public Private Partnership (PPP).

Flagging off the project in Mufulira on Monday, Milupi said the PPP project had been procured at a total cost of US$ 76,129,229.48.

He said the concession would run for a period of 22 years, inclusive of the three years for construction.

“The project is design, finance, build, operate, maintain and transfer of the road and associated border infrastructure,” Milupi said.

He said the project scope included road infrastructure costing $27.2 million, bridges and crossing points valued at $1.1 million

“Sakania Border Post infrastructure construction will be done at a cost of $19.8 million,” Milupi said.

He said the integrated transport information system and instrumentation would be done at a cost of $ 6.3 million.

Apart from the Ndola to Lusaka dual carriageway project, the government early this month also signed a concession agreement for the reconstruction of the Katete to Chanida Road and associated border infrastructure.

The total project cost was $79,785,115 VAT inclusive, and the cross section to be adopted shall comprise a 3.5 meters lane with 2 meters sealed shoulders and 0.5 metres unpaved shoulders on both sides.
