The National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) has admitted that it had faced operational and financial challenges that had affected payment timelines to healthcare providers on the National Health Insurance Scheme.
NHIMA Director General Dr. Michael Njapau said the challenges had impacted service delivery under the scheme.
Njapau said this during the official opening of a week-long Claims Protocol and Reconciliation Sensitization Workshop at M’kango Golfview Hotel in Lusaka on Wednesday.
The workshop has brought together representatives from accredited private, public and faith-based healthcare providers from across Lusaka Province.
He said the engagement was aimed at strengthening understanding of claims management procedures, reconciliation processes, and the application of claims protocols.
“Healthcare providers are at the heart of the National Health Insurance Scheme. Our success depends on the strength of our partnership, and NHIMA remains fully committed to honoring its obligation to pay accredited healthcare providers for services rendered to our members,” Njapau said.
He emphasized that healthcare providers remained indispensable partners in delivering quality healthcare services to NHIS members.
“Through continuous dialogue, capacity building and strengthened claims management systems, we are working together to improve efficiency and ensure sustainable service delivery,” Njapau said.
He said NHIMA was implementing measures to strengthen the National Health Insurance Scheme and improve healthcare service delivery across the country.
Njapau stated that significant interventions were being implemented to improve claims processing, enhance verification procedures, and accelerate reconciliations.
Njapau said the authority would continue to strengthen partnerships with healthcare providers while promoting improved service delivery under the National Health Insurance Scheme.
