President Hakainde Hichilema has called on Zambians to honour the legacy of the country’s founding father, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, by embracing unity, peace, and national identity.
In a statement commemorating Kenneth Kaunda Day posted on his official Facebook page on April 28, 2025, President Hichilema described Dr. Kaunda as “the soul of our nation’s conscience,” highlighting his contributions to Zambia’s freedom and his advocacy for unity and reconciliation across Africa.

“President Kaunda was more than a leader; he was a tireless advocate for peace, love, and the preservation of our culture,” President Hichilema said.
He urged citizens to reflect on the sacrifices made by Dr. Kaunda and to recommit themselves to the values of freedom, hard work, and national pride.
Kenneth Kaunda Day, which was declared a public holiday in August 2021, serves as a reminder of Zambia’s founding ideals and the enduring importance of national unity.
“May we, in our own time, be worthy heirs to the noble legacy he bequeathed us,” President Hichilema said.
He wished the nation a happy Kenneth Kaunda Day and called for continued blessings on Zambia.
