A 16-year-old girl from Kamwala South has been found dead in a bushy area near a heap of blocks behind Luckson Mapushi Police Post, in what police suspect to be a gruesome murder.

Four boys, aged 10 to 13, discovered the body on Thursday morning while on their way to Kamwala South Primary School.

Police spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary investigations revealed the girl had returned home from school around 18:00 hours the previous day.

She later changed into a maroon hoodie and white plastic shoes before being sent by her mother, Jane Mulenga, to buy charcoal, sachets of water, and tomatoes from a nearby shop.

“When she failed to return home within a reasonable time, her parents, Thomas Meleki and Jane Mulenga, began searching for her but did not find her,” Hamoonga said.

The family reported her missing at Maxwell Sibongo Police Post early on March 6, 2025.

Police officers who responded to a report of a dead body found the girl lying on the grass with her pants partially pulled down and mucus on her nose.

Her plastic bag, containing the purchased items, was found nearby.

The body has been transported to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Mortuary for a postmortem, and investigations are ongoing.

Hamoonga urged anyone with information to report to the nearest police station.
