Kasama police raise the alarm as violent attacks on bikers surge

0

Police in Kasama have raised concern over a surge in violent attacks targeting motorcyclists, following another incident in which a 33-year-old rider was assaulted and robbed of his motorcycle valued at K25,000.

The latest attack comes barely a week after another biker lost his motorbike in similar fashion.

Northern Province Police Commanding Officer Simunji Mulonda said the Zambia Police Service is alarmed by the growing trend, particularly among riders operating unregistered motorcycles.

“It is worth noting that on April 17, 2026, another victim, Patrick Chanda, was robbed of an unregistered motorcycle in similar circumstances,” Mulonda said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Criminal elements are exploiting the challenge faced by the Police in tracing unregistered motorcycles.”

He said despite repeated appeals, some motorcyclists continue operating without registering their bikes with the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) after clearing them with the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).

“The Zambia Police Service is therefore once again urging all motorcycle owners to ensure that their motorcycles are duly registered and to avoid operating at night, especially in isolated areas, as a measure to reduce vulnerability to such attacks,” he said.
