Luapula Province Minister, Nason Musonda, has called on local authorities lacking road equipment to utilise the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to procure machinery and rehabilitate feeder roads.
During a tour of the 28-kilometre Kala road in Kawambwa Central Constituency, Musonda emphasized that improved road infrastructure was vital to unlocking the province’s economic potential, enhancing access to healthcare, education, and social services.
He said the acquisition of road equipment would empower local authorities to drive infrastructure development, promote self-sufficiency, and support sustainable growth.

“Feeder roads such as Muyembe in Iyanga Ward, Chimfuntu, and those in Luena Ward—home to the Kawambwa Tea Estate—are earmarked for serious maintenance,” Musonda stated, adding that ongoing works on Kala road were progressing well.
Kawambwa Town Council Chairperson, Titus Musa, assured that road works on Kala and other feeder roads would resume immediately after the rainy season.
He noted that improved connectivity through raised embankments, gravel spreading, compacting, culvert placement, and drainage works would help reduce flooding, erosion, and enhance road durability.
Musonda reaffirmed government’s commitment to addressing transport challenges in Luapula and spurring local economic development.
