Lusaka City Council embarks on road rehabilitation, lists Independence Avenue, Twin Palm Road, others for action

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has commenced the rehabilitation of township roads in Lusaka district, covering a total distance of 40.17 kilometers under three lots.

The project is funded by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) at a total cost of K1.8 Billion.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, Lusaka City Council Public Relations, Manager Chola Mwamba, said the project aimed to provide a safe and reliable road network for easy transportation in the city.

“The rehabilitation works include creating extra lanes on some roads, constructing new pavement layers, drainage works, and installing road signage,” Mwamba said.

Some of the major roads benefiting from this project include Independence Avenue, spanning 3.34 kilometers, Twin Palm, covering 3.4 kilometers, Chunga Dumpsite, stretching 2.9 kilometers, and Ibex Road, measuring 2.5 kilometers.

Additionally, Great East Road and Kamanga Road will benefit from the creation of extra lanes.

“Lusaka City Council prioritizes road safety, recognizing its importance in providing accessible and safer roads for residents,” she said.

Mwamba assured of the the Council commitment to ensuring the successful completion of these project, which would not only improve road conditions but also enhance the overall quality of life for the residents of Lusaka.
