Man reportedly dies while conducting illegal mining activities in Chambishi

An illegal miner has died while scavenging a dumpsite in Chambishi, Copperbelt Province.

This was after stones fell on him whilst conducting copper scavenging activities with unknown friends at NFCA dumpsite on Saturday.

Copperbelt Police Chief Peacewell Mweemba described the incident as a case of sudden and unnatural death that happened on Saturday around 10:00 hours.

Mweemba said Doreen Lufuma 45 reported that her brother Brian Lufuma 40 died after he was hit by falling stones whilst conducting illegal mining with friends.

On the material day, Brian along with others commonly known as Bakafuka were at portal six within NFCA Mine conducting illegal mining activities.

As he was digging in the curve, stones fell and injured him.

His friends who are not yet known rushed him to Chambishi government clinic and left him being attended to.

Mweemba said the sister was informed and went to the clinic,the miner died around 14:00 hours,the same day.

He said the matter was reported to police who inspected the body and said it was found with a swollen face, deep cut on the back of the head, a cut on the left leg and bleeding from the nose.

Mweemba said the scene of the accident had not yet been visited as the friends who were with him were not yet known to lead the police.
