Manchester City remain on course for next season’s Champions League after snatching a late 2-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park.

In a match that offered little attacking flair, the breakthrough came in the 84th minute when young full-back Nico O’Reilly converted Matheus Nunes’ cutback from close range.

According to the BBC Sports, substitute Mateo Kovacic sealed the win in stoppage time with a stretched finish.

The result lifts Pep Guardiola’s side to fourth in the Premier League table, four points ahead of sixth-placed Chelsea, who play Fulham on Sunday.

Everton came closest in the first half when James Tarkowski headed against the post from a James Garner corner.

Manchester City nearly struck before the break, but Kevin De Bruyne’s effort was cleared off the line by Jake O’Brien.

Jordan Pickford kept the hosts in it with a fine save from Savinho in the second half, but City’s late surge proved decisive.
