Chilenje Police Station has launched an investigation into a case of obtaining money by false pretences involving US$29,737, allegedly lost in a fraudulent gold transaction last month.
According to a statement issued by Zambia Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, the report was received on Friday, April 18, 2025, at approximately 16:00 hours.
The complainant, Abel Musonda, 34, of House No. 875/F/5 Bombay Road in Emmasdale, reported that a known individual, identified as Peter Sinkamba of unknown address in Lusaka, swindled him out of the money under the pretext of having 500 grams of gold for sale.
The incident is reported to have occurred between March 25 and April 16, 2025, at East Park Mall and the Waterfalls area in Lusaka.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Mr. Musonda was acting on behalf of his brother, Mwaba Musonda, who is based in China. Mwaba had instructed him to procure and ship three kilograms of gold to Hong Kong.
Musonda subsequently engaged Sinkamba, who is believed to operate under the business name Tontoz Minerals and General Dealers. Sinkamba agreed to sell the gold at US$67,000 per kilogram.
On April 5, at around 11:00 hours, the two parties met at East Park Mall, where Musonda transferred US$29,737 via Binance Wallet to an account identified as MUSANGO 7, allegedly linked to Sinkamba.
A few days later, on April 14 at 15:00 hours, Sinkamba and a shipping agent, identified as Felix Flexon Hangoma, met with the complainant at Waterfalls, where 500 grams of what was presented as gold was handed over for shipment.
“The agent assured the complainant that he was in the process of securing a release order and an airway bill,” Hamoonga said.
However, on April 16, the provided airway bill was submitted to authorities at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport for verification and was found to be fake.
The shipping agent, Felix Flexon Hangoma, 31, of Meanwood Ibex, was apprehended by the complainant and is currently in police custody. So far, no recovery has been made.
Police have since intensified efforts to locate and apprehend the main suspect, Peter Sinkamba.
The Zambia Police Service has urged members of the public to exercise caution when engaging in high-value transactions, particularly those involving precious minerals.
Authorities advise that such dealings should only be conducted through licensed and verifiable channels to avoid falling victim to fraud.
