Mubanga dumps presidential bid

The Development People’s Party has formally withdrawn its presidential bid ahead of the scheduled filing of nomination papers for the August 2026 General Elections.

Party president Dr. Kafula Mubanga informed the general public, party structures, and all national stakeholders of the decision in a statement issued Lusaka on Wednesday.

Mubanga said the withdrawal followed the successful filing of nomination papers by Mundubile, a move described as a strategic and deeply considered decision to halt its independent presidential campaign.

“This definitive course of action is grounded entirely in our firm conviction that Hon. Brian Mundubile embodies the collective aspirations of the Zambian people and stands out as the definitive choice to lead our nation forward,” he stated.

Mubanga believes that Mundubile was the leader best placed to take the country forward and spoke on the transition.

“I would like to express my deepest and most sincere gratitude to the thousands of citizens, community leaders, and party mobilizers who gave us overwhelming support across all ten provinces during our recent Pre-Presidential Processing Exercise. Your dedication to our vision for Zambia was inspiring,” he stated.

Mubanga said the support from across the country had been overwhelming during the exercise.

He urged the party supporters and all Zambians to rally behind Mundubile in the interest of national unity.

“In the interest of national unity and progressive governance, I now urge all our supporters and well-meaning Zambians across the length and breadth of our great country to rally behind Hon. Brian Mundubile,” Mubanga said.

He added that Mundubile was a leader duty-bound by experience, integrity, and a proven track record to deliver unprecedented economic and social development to our nation.

He said the party remained committed to ensuring a prosperous future for Zambia, pledging to actively collaborate with like-minded forces to support leadership that prioritized the welfare of the Zambian people.
