Patriotic Front (PF) Malole Member of Parliament, Robert Kalimi, has appeared before the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court on a charge of motor vehicle theft involving a VW Golf GTI valued at K449,000.
The matter, scheduled for hearing on Thursday, was adjourned to May 21 after Magistrate Idah Phiri was unable to preside due to illness.
Kalimi previously pleaded not guilty to one count of motor vehicle theft when he appeared in court in January this year.
According to the charge sheet, Kalimi is accused of stealing a Volkswagen Golf, registration number BCC 6524ZM, belonging to Matildah Kitenge of Ndola.
The alleged offence occurred between January 2020 and March 31, 2023.
A police statement issued in May 2023 stated that Kalimi, 53, of Silverest in Lusaka, was arrested and charged under Section 281(a) of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Investigations revealed that the vehicle was initially given to Kalimi for temporary use through an arrangement with Kitenge’s brother, who was repairing Kalimi’s own vehicle after an accident.
However, it is alleged that Kalimi later sold the car to a Lusaka man identified only as Musakanya for K60,000—well below its actual value.
Following a complaint by Kitenge, police traced the vehicle to Musakanya, who allegedly confirmed buying it from Kalimi in March 2023. The vehicle was subsequently recovered.
Kalimi remains on police bond.
