The Zambia Police Service has instituted investigations into a murder and suspected suicide incident that occurred on July 8, 2026, around 15:00 hours in Makeni Villa, Lusaka.
The matter was reported to Kanyama Police Station around 15:40 hours by a resident of Makeni Villa, who informed police of a shooting incident in the neighbourhood.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday, Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said officers responded to the scene and found three deceased persons with gunshot wounds.
Chilabi said the deceased have been identified as Theresa Nyambe, aged 43; Innocent Nyambe, aged 39; and Clifford Chileshe, aged 45.
“Initial circumstances indicate that the incident followed a domestic violence complaint reported by Theresa Nyambe against her husband, Clifford Chileshe, at Kanyama Police Station on July 6, 2026,” he said.

She was issued with a medical report form for examination.
On July 8, 2026, Theresa Nyambe visited the Victim Support Unit at Kanyama Police Station in connection with the matter before proceeding to the couple’s residence, accompanied by her younger brother, Innocent Nyambe.
Preliminary findings suggest that shortly after their arrival, Clifford Chileshe allegedly shot Innocent Nyambe and later shot Theresa Nyambe outside the house before returning inside, where he is believed to have shot himself.
Police processed the scene and recovered eight spent cartridges. Two pistols, identified as a CANIK pistol and a Millennium G2 pistol, were also recovered and secured for forensic examination.
“The bodies have since been deposited at the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted,” Chilabi said.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Similary, the Zambia Police Service has, with immediate effect, instituted investigations into the conduct of the officers who handled the matter involving a domestic violence complaint that preceded the tragic murder and suspected suicide incident in Makeni Villa, Lusaka.
Chilabi said the service had noted public concern regarding the handling of the matter which happened on July 8, 2026.
He said the investigations would review the officers’ compliance with established Zambia Police Service procedures, and professional standards.
Chilabi said this would include applicable laws in the execution of their duties, particularly in relation to the handling of Gender-Based Violence cases.
“Should the investigations reveal any negligence, misconduct, or failure to comply with established procedures or the law, appropriate action will be taken in accordance with Zambia Police Service regulations and other applicable legislation,” he said.
He assured that the investigations would be conducted impartially, professionally and the findings would be made public upon conclusion of the investigations.
“We extend our sincere condolences to the bereaved families during this difficult period and convey our deepest sympathies following this tragic incident,” Chilabi said.
He stated that the Service remains committed to professionalism, transparency and accountability.
