Regulatory authority raids drugstore in Solwezi, nabs owner with stolen govt medical supplies

Zambia Medicine Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) has conducted inspections in Solwezi and discovered 14 boxes of gloves suspected to be government property at a drugstore.

As a result, police say, a pharmacy technologist was picked for allegedly stealing 14 boxes of hospital gloves valued at K21,000.

North-Western Police Chief Dennis Moola said Edmond Mundanya was arrested after being found with the consignment in his drug store.

In a statement on Sunday, Moola said the theft of the gloves is believed to have happened between January 24 at an unknown time and March 17, 2023 at 16:00 hours.

ZAMRA and other officers were on duty conducting their routine inspections and upon inspecting a shop called Nulebanda they found 14 boxes of gloves suspected to be government property.

It was discovered that they were stolen from a government health agency facility.

The matter was reported to the police by Emmanuel Sinkamba 38, an inspector for ZAMRA.

Moola said the stolen property was recovered, after which Mundanya was arrested by the police.

He also said the investigations in the matter have continued.
