An alleged case of jealousy within a polygamous marriage has advanced to the High Court after a 26-year-old Lusaka woman was committed for trial over the alleged murder of her husband’s two children.

The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has committed Mary Kashilika, of Meanwood Kwamwena Phase Four, to the High Court for plea and trial on two counts of murder.

Kashilika appeared before Magistrate Nthandose Chabala, who formally committed the matter after receiving a certificate from the Director of Public Prosecutions confirming that the case is ready for trial before the High Court.

She is alleged to have murdered six-year-old Mathias Kamanga and two-year-old Tifiness Kamanga by throwing them into the Ngwerere Stream on February 25, 2026.

The prosecution alleges that the body of the six-year-old boy was recovered from the stream, while that of the two-year-old girl has not yet been recovered.

According to police, the matter was reported by the children’s father, Titus Kamanga, who alleged that the accused, his second wife, threw the children—who were born to his first wife—into the stream.

Police believe the incident was linked to domestic tensions within the polygamous marriage, allegedly arising from disputes between the two wives.

According to investigators, on the day of the incident, Kamanga was at work while the children’s mother was attending to household chores when the children went missing.

It is alleged that the mother followed cries coming from the direction of the Ngwerere Stream, where a fisherman reportedly witnessed Kashilika throwing the children into the water.

The fisherman is said to have apprehended the accused before alerting the authorities.

The matter will now proceed to the High Court for plea and trial.
