Mwizukanji, a Zambian feature film produced by Cosmas Ng’andwe, has won the Best Indigenous Language (Southern Africa) award at the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs), held on May 10, 2025, in Lagos, Nigeria.

Other Zambian productions nominated in various categories at this year’s AMVCAs included Pastor Wants a Wife, Man of Gold, and Kopala Queens.

Ng’andwe, the creator of the award-winning film, described the achievement as proof of the Zambian film industry’s progress. He urged fellow filmmakers to remain united and committed, even in the face of limited resources.

“Let’s continue pushing. Our country does not yet have a strong industry with a unified purpose. But even with no funding, we are winning awards — so let’s keep going,” Ng’andwe said.

He further appealed to the government to support the sector through the creation of an annual film fund to boost local production.

Ng’andwe described the award as a major milestone and predicted even greater success ahead, noting the resilience and determination of Zambia’s filmmakers.

The AMVCAs, presented by MultiChoice, celebrate excellence in television, film, and content creation across Nollywood and the wider African entertainment industry.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Media Arts (NAMA) congratulated Mwizukanji on its win, calling it a national triumph.

NAMA President Morgan Mbulo said the award underscored the global potential of Zambian content creators.

“Achievements like these reflect the growing influence and international reach of our local filmmakers,” Mbulo said.

He also applauded other nominated Zambian productions, including work by filmmaker Toyzya Botah, and reaffirmed NAMA’s commitment to promoting, supporting, and protecting the interests of Zambia’s media industry.
