Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary, Lawrence Mwanza, has confirmed the tragic drowning of four family members in Masaiti District.

The incident occurred on Friday around 21:00 hours as the family attempted to cross the Kafulafuta Dam while returning home.

In a statement issued on Monday following his visit to the scene, Mwanza said the Zambia Police and Fire Brigade have so far retrieved the bodies of a 30-year-old man (the father) and his 5-year-old daughter.

“Efforts are currently underway to recover the remaining two victims — the mother and a 3-month-old infant — with specialized support from the Zambia Commando Unit assisting in the retrieval operation,” he said.

Mwanza extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Copperbelt Province, and the nation during this time of mourning.
