Oriental Queries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) has announced that Zambia’s David “Sniper” Mwale will face Ghana’s Michael Decardi Nelson for the World Boxing Council (WBC) International Bantamweight Title.
Mwale, the reigning African Boxing Union (ABU) Bantamweight Champion, is set to clash with Nelson in a highly anticipated title bout at the Government Complex in Lusaka — a fight that marks a historic moment for Zambian boxing.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday, OQBP Event Coordinator and Promoter, Christopher Malunga, said the bout will be Zambia’s first male-hosted WBC international title fight since December 2, 1990 — a legendary night that featured the late Lottie Mwale, one of Zambia’s greatest boxing icons.
“Exactly 35 years later, another Mwale is stepping into the ring to make history. David ‘Sniper’ Mwale carries not only the nation’s hopes but also the proud legacy of Zambian boxing,” Malunga said.
He recalled that Lottie Mwale made history by winning gold in the light middleweight division at the 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, becoming Zambia’s first Commonwealth Games boxing champion.
Malunga added that Lottie Mwale later clinched gold at the All-Africa Military Games and the 1975 East and Central African Amateur Boxing Championships, before capping off his amateur career with a title win at the World Military Championships.

On the upcoming bout, Malunga noted that the WBC International Bantamweight Championship is receiving overwhelming support from various stakeholders, including ABU President Houichi and the WBC itself.
“This morning, I met with two VVIP individuals and a prominent mining firm. I’m pleased to share that both meetings were very positive. The outcomes will be officially announced at a press conference very soon,” he said.
Malunga thanked all stakeholders for their continued support to the sport and pledged to deliver a memorable fight night, along with future high-level boxing tournaments.
