Morocco enjoyed a historic night at the CAF Awards 2025 in Rabat, where Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak captured the top individual honours in men’s and women’s football, underscoring a golden year for the North African nation.
The annual ceremony, attended by football stars, coaches, and continental legends, celebrated Africa’s outstanding performers amid the sport’s continued rise on the global stage.
Paris Saint-Germain right-back Hakimi was crowned CAF Men’s Player of the Year after a remarkable 2025 campaign that saw him lift the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and reach the FIFA Club World Cup final.
His contribution to Morocco’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup further solidified his status, making him the first defender to claim the honour since 1973 and the first Moroccan since Mustapha Hadji in 1998.
On the women’s side, Chebbak capped a standout year by taking the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award—becoming the first Moroccan to do so.
She finished as top scorer at the 2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where Morocco were runners-up, and secured a move to Saudi giants Al-Hilal ahead of the new season.
Morocco’s dominance continued as Yassine Bounou was named CAF Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year, while Doha El Madani retained the CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year title.
Rising star Othmane Maamma was also recognised as CAF Men’s Young Player of the Year after starring in Morocco’s FIFA Under-20 World Cup triumph.
Cape Verde’s Bubista was voted CAF Men’s Coach of the Year after guiding his country to their first-ever FIFA World Cup qualification.
