Lubinda-led PF disowns ‘ECL-PF Movement,’ warns members against illegal breakaway group

The Given Lubinda–led Patriotic Front (PF) has firmly distanced itself from the so-called “ECL-PF Movement,” describing it as a fictitious creation pushed by a few “rogue and selfish elements” seeking to fracture the party.

Faction Deputy Secretary General–Administration, Celestine Mukandila, alleged that the initiative was aimed at erasing the legacy of the late President Michael Sata, the PF’s founding leader.

Presenting the faction’s Central Committee resolutions, Mukandila emphasized that any association with the purported extension of the PF—or with entities operating outside the legitimate Tonse Alliance—was illegal.

He warned that PF members who aligned themselves with the breakaway Tonse structure would face severe disciplinary action as stipulated in the party constitution.

“For avoidance of doubt, any member of the PF who associates with the breakaway illegal Tonse, shall be deemed to have exited their membership of the Patriotic Front,” Mukandila stated.

He reaffirmed the faction’s position as the anchor party of the Tonse Alliance.

Mukandila said the PF had observed with concern that some Alliance members had violated the agreed Rules of Engagement and the governing documents of the Tonse Alliance.

“In particular, these members have purported to announce the expulsion of the Patriotic Front from the Alliance, an action that is inconsistent with the principles, procedures, and agreements collectively adopted by Alliance partners,” he said.

He added that the PF Central Committee was currently seized with the matter and was conducting a comprehensive review. The party was also awaiting formal communication from Alliance member parties and organisations.

“The Patriotic Front shall, in due course, communicate its position and the decisions arising from this process,”Mukandila said.

He further reaffirmed former President Edgar Lungu’s decision of March 20, 2025, to dismiss Dr. Zumani Zimba from the Office of the Former President.

Mukandila noted that due to recent developments, the planned review of the Tonse Alliance constitution—scheduled for January 20, 2026—had been forfeited, and that the existing 14 Rules of Engagement would remain in force.

He announced that the PF Central Committee had opened applications for adoption for the 2026 elections for Councillors, Council Chairpersons, Mayors, and Members of Parliament (MPs).
