Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, Chipoka Mulenga, has revealed that Zambia is targeting more than US$5 billion in new investments this year, with a particular focus on the energy sector and mineral beneficiation.
Speaking at the launch of the campaign for the second Invest-Zambia International Conference (IZIC) in Lusaka on Tuesday, Mulenga said the ambitious target reflected the government’s commitment to accelerating economic diversification and industrial growth.
The 2026 IZIC is set to take place from July 15 to 17 and is expected to bring together global investors, policymakers, and business leaders to explore opportunities in key sectors of the economy.
“This year, our target is to attract over US$5 billion in investments in the energy sector and mineral beneficiation,” Mulenga said.
He added that these investments would enhance value addition in mining, strengthen energy security, create thousands of jobs, and position Zambia as a preferred destination for both regional and international investors.

Highlighting the focus on mineral beneficiation, Mulenga noted that the government aims to shift away from exporting raw minerals, instead promoting processing and manufacturing locally to boost export earnings and expand the country’s industrial base.
“The energy sector remains a cornerstone of our economic transformation, as reliable power is essential for large-scale manufacturing, mining expansion, and other productive investments,” Mulenga emphasised.
Reflecting on the success of the inaugural IZIC, which drew reportedly billions in committed investments and thousands of delegates, he said the conference had strengthened confidence in Zambia’s reform agenda and investment climate.
“We are building on these gains to ensure Zambia continues to attract quality investments that benefit our people and support sustainable development,” Mulenga added.
Also at the launch, Zambia Development Agency Director-General, Albert Halwampa, said the 2026 IZIC aimed to host 2,500 local and international delegates and 100 exhibitors.
