The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has warned against schemes aimed at distorting the electoral process in Zambia, cautioning that such actions may breed discontent.

ECZ Commissioner, Major General Vincent Mukanda, also commended the media for its constructive coverage during the Kasama Mayoral Elections.

Speaking during the review of the Kasama General Elections held on January 29, Mukanda stressed that the peace Zambia currently enjoyed would be difficult to maintain if the electoral process was interfered with, warning that any actions against it could destabilise the nation.

“The distortion in the electoral process breeds wars as observed in some neighbouring countries,” he said.

Mukanda noted that Kasama District held peaceful mayoral elections and said they should serve as an example for the upcoming August 13 General Elections this year.

He further assured citizens that the ECZ was committed to meeting their expectations by ensuring transparent and credible electoral processes, describing the August 2026 election outlook as positive.

District Electoral Officer, Innocent Mutambo, also expressed gratitude for the peaceful electoral process in Kasama District and thanked the officers for their diligent work during the election period.

He added: “The Zambia Police are also ensuring that law and order is maintained during the electoral processes in the country.”
