The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has urged broadcasting stations to uphold responsible and ethical standards in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within their operations.
The appeal comes as the country marks World Radio Day on February 13 under the theme “Radio and Artificial Intelligence.”
In a statement issued on Friday, IBA Director General, Webster Malido, noted that emerging technologies were increasingly influencing content production, programming, and audience engagement across the broadcasting sector.
He emphasised that while AI presents opportunities to enhance efficiency and foster innovation, it should serve only as a supportive tool and must not replace human editorial judgement or accountability.

“The Authority further called on broadcasters to put in place clear internal policies and editorial guidelines to safeguard accuracy, credibility, and public trust. Broadcasters were also urged to ensure the responsible and ethical use of AI in order to protect audiences from misinformation and content manipulation,” he said.
Meanwhile, IBA reaffirmed its commitment to reviewing regulatory frameworks and engaging stakeholders to ensure broadcasting standards remained responsive to technological advancements, while maintaining an appropriate balance between innovation and responsibility.
