Appeal court grants interim order restraining Sampa from interfering with PF Secretary-General, Ng’ona

Morgan Ng’ona remains the Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General after securing an interim injunction from the Court of Appeal restraining Miles Sampa from interfering with his duties.

According to court documents, the Court of Appeal also barred Sampa from making any changes to the official records of PF office bearers held by the Registrar of Societies, pending determination of the appeal.

Ng’ona had appealed against a Lusaka High Court decision that dismissed his case—challenging his expulsion and removal as PF Secretary General by Sampa—for want of prosecution.

The dismissal had the effect of upholding his removal.

However, in an interim order dated March 19, 2026, Court of Appeal Judge Kelvin Muzenga granted the injunction after hearing counsel for Ng’ona and reviewing his supporting affidavit.

The court restrained Sampa, whether personally or through agents, from interfering with Ng’ona’s role and functions as Secretary General until the appeal is heard and determined.

It further restrained Sampa from making any representations aimed at altering the PF’s official records at the Registrar of Societies relating to party office bearers.

“It is further ordered that the respondent be and is hereby restrained from making any representation whatsoever and howsoever aimed at altering the official records of the Patriotic Front Party at the Registrar of Societies relating to office bearers until the determination of the appeal herein or further order of this honourable Court,” read the order.

The matter has been set for inter partes hearing of the summons for an interim injunction on April 14, 2026, at 09:00 hours.

Meanwhile, Sampa had earlier written to the Registrar of Societies seeking to alter the list of PF office bearers, removing Mafinga MP Robert Chabinga as President and Ng’ona as Secretary General.
