North-Western Province Minister, Robert Lihefu, has dismissed claims that the brutal murder of 46-year-old Hellen Kamutumbe in Kisasa area of Kalumbila was linked to her tribe or perceived origin.
Speaking during a media briefing in Solwezi on Saturday, Lihefu said the killing of Kamutumbe—who had been accused by a mob of causing “manhood disappearance”—was not motivated by ethnic considerations, contrary to claims circulating online.
He warned against the growing allegations of tribalism circulating both in mainstream media and on social media, stressing that such narratives were dangerous and unfounded.
Lihefu clarified that Kamutumbe hailed from Mukeya village in Chief Ingwe’s chiefdom in Kasempa, while her father originates from Chief Mumena’s chiefdom in Kalumbila District.

“Coming from North-Western Province or any other province does not justify the unfortunate mob killing that Hellen was subjected to. No one deserves to die in such a brutal manner,” he said.
He called on citizens to respect human life, refrain from sharing unverified information, and uphold the dignity of the deceased and her family during this period of grief.
Lihefu further urged responsible conduct from all citizens—particularly influential individuals—expressing disappointment that some respected members of society were among those fuelling tribal divisions and spreading misinformation.
“I am urging the community in Kisasa area to remain calm and peaceful, refrain from circulating unverified information, and ensure that school-going children return to class,” he stated.
Kamutumbe’s death has continued to attract widespread condemnation from various stakeholders due to the manner in which she was killed, based on superstition and unproven accusations.
