The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has reportedly secured K564,775 in terminal benefits for 73 employees of Wynn Casino Entertainment Limited following the company’s suspension of operations.
The intervention comes after concerns emerged that the casino had effectively ceased operations after one of its shareholders withdrew from the business.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Ministry, workers further alleged that the company’s director intended to leave the country without settling outstanding dues.
“Acting on the matter, labour inspectors from the Office of the Labour Commissioner moved in swiftly and intercepted the company director around 23:00 hours on Friday, April 17, 2026.
During the engagement, the director committed to settling all payments owed to the affected employees,” the statement read.
The statement indicated that the Ministry, working in collaboration with the Department of Immigration, requested the director to surrender his passport as a precautionary measure to ensure compliance with the settlement agreement.
This action resulted in the successful payment of workers’ entitlements, which included April salaries, accrued leave days and gratuity.
Meanwhile, the remaining shareholder has indicated intentions to continue operating the business and has committed to re-engaging some of the affected workers once operations stabilise.
“The Ministry has since advised the company’s management to engage a qualified human resource practitioner to ensure compliance with labour laws and foster sound industrial relations,” according to the statement.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to protecting workers’ rights and ensuring employers meet their statutory obligations.
