The Tobacco Board of Zambia (TBZ) said on Thursday it is expanding its operations across the country to bring services closer to farmers as it targets producing 80 million kilogrammes (kg) of tobacco in the 2025/2026 marketing season.

TBZ Executive Director, Robert Mwale, said new offices had already been opened in regions that had not traditionally grown tobacco, including Northwestern Province, as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the board’s national presence.

“Our goal is simple: bring our services closer to the farming community, both current and future growers,” Mwale said at the signing of a cooperation agreement with the Zambia Institute of Mass Communication Educational Trust(ZAMCOM) in Lusaka.

He said the memorandum of understanding aims to boost TBZ’s public visibility and improve communication with farmers through short videos, reels and other content showcasing success stories in the tobacco sector.

TBZ also plans to sign a similar agreement with the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation to further increase public engagement.

Mwale said TBZ previously partnered with the Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia to enhance collaboration within the agricultural value chain.

ZAMCOM Executive Director Kennedy Mwila, said the partnership reflected a shared commitment to strengthening communication and visibility in the tobacco subsector, noting the crop remained Zambia’s top non-traditional export earner.
