Musician Edward Chanda pleads not guilty to child trafficking, cyber charges

Musician Edward Chanda, of the group known as Chanda Na Kay, has pleaded not guilty to three charges related to alleged child trafficking and cyber offences.

Chanda appeared before Lusaka Magistrate Nthandose Chabala on Tuesday and entered a plea of not guilty to all counts.

The accused is facing one count of trafficking of a child under the Anti-Human Trafficking Act No. 11 of 2018.

He is also facing two counts under the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025 involving alleged child grooming and solicitation.

“Appearing before Magistrate Nthandose Chabala on Tuesday, Chanda pleaded not guilty to all counts,” the court heard.

According to the allegations, Chanda is accused of trafficking a child identified as WK on August 3, 2025, within Zambia for purposes of sexual exploitation.

The State also alleged that on July 7, 2025, he used a computer or computer system to groom the child for purposes of encouraging sexual conduct.

“In another charge, Chanda is alleged to have used a computer or computer system on July 27, 2025, to arrange a meeting with WK with intent to abuse or engage in sexual activity with the child,” the court was told.

The charges relate to separate incidents occurring in July and August 2025.

Trial commences on June 1, 2026.
