The Zambia Police Service says it has launched a manhunt for suspects linked to malicious damage to property and theft at Mutambe Ground in Mandevu Compound, Lusaka, on June 16, 2026.

The incident occurred around 15:00 hours when Tonse Alliance supporters reportedly held a lawful meeting at the grounds, according to Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, Chilabi said the meeting was allegedly disrupted by a group suspected to be United Party for National Development (UPND) supporters, leading to confrontation, property damage and theft.

Godwin Phiri, 30, of Zanimuone West and aspiring Tonse Alliance candidate for Chaisa Ward 23, reported the matter to Emmasdale Police Station at 19:00 hours.

Phiri said his silver Mercedes Benz, registration AHC 744, was vandalized and the damage included shattered windscreens, a broken window, four slashed tyres, and sugar and sand poured into the fuel tank.

He also reported the theft of K20,000 cash, 100 Tonse Alliance T-shirts and 50 caps. He estimated total loss from stolen and damaged property at K81,500.

Two teachers’ houses at Mutambe Primary School were also affected after their windowpanes were damaged during the clash.

A maroon Toyota Rumion, registration BAL 2254, belonging to 42-year-old taxi driver Brighton Musungule of Zanimuone West, was damaged as well.

Police officers rushed to the scene but the alleged perpetrators had fled. Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest all persons involved.

“The Zambia Police Service has intensified efforts to bring the suspects to justice,” Chilabi said.

He warned that acts of violence and property damage would not be tolerated regardless of political affiliation.

“Further updates will be issued as investigations continue,” Chilabi concluded.
