The Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) has called for policy consistency, predictability and stronger public-private sector collaboration as Zambia enters a new phase of economic growth following President Hakainde Hichilema’s re-election.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, ZACCI president, Anthony Kabaghe, said a stable policy environment would be essential to maintaining investor confidence and enabling businesses to expand under the President’s renewed mandate.

Kabaghe said the business community looked forward to continued engagement with Government on policies and reforms aimed at improving competitiveness and strengthening the investment climate.

“Predictability, policy consistency and close public-private collaboration will be essential to translating this mandate into inclusive economic growth,” he said.

He said Zambia should build on progress made in fiscal consolidation, debt restructuring and the mining sector to unlock further economic opportunities.

Kabaghe said ZACCI would continue providing input on policies affecting businesses, particularly measures aimed at enabling micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to play a greater role in economic development.

He said a stronger business environment would be important in encouraging investment, expanding productive activity and creating employment opportunities.

Kabaghe also urged the business community to remain resilient and forward-looking as the country enters a new political and economic phase.

He said peace, stability and national unity would remain important in maintaining investor confidence and supporting sustained economic activity.

“Policy certainty gives businesses the confidence to plan, invest and expand,” he said.

The ZACCI president said continued dialogue between Government and the private sector would be necessary to identify and address constraints affecting businesses.

He said such engagement should focus on improving the operating environment, strengthening competitiveness and creating conditions that encourage long-term investment.

ZACCI said the private sector remained ready to work with Government in advancing reforms that would support sustainable economic growth and broaden opportunities for businesses across the country.

The chamber reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to national economic development through constructive engagement on policies affecting commerce, industry and investment.

Kabaghe said Zambia’s next phase of growth should focus on translating economic reforms into tangible opportunities for businesses and citizens, while ensuring that the benefits of economic expansion were broadly shared.
