The Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) is set to lead a delegation of 41 local companies on a trade mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to expand Zambia’s export markets, secure new business opportunities and strengthen regional trade.

The mission will bring together Zambian businesses and potential buyers, distributors, investors and strategic partners in the DRC through exhibitions and business-to-business (B2B) meetings aimed at facilitating commercial partnerships.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by ZDA Head of Communication and Public Relations Kwali Mfuni, the delegation comprises 10 large companies and 31 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) drawn from various sectors of the economy.

Mfuni said the composition of the delegation reflected the growing capacity of Zambian businesses to supply products and services to regional markets.

She said some companies would be participating in a trade mission to the DRC for the first time, while others were returning to strengthen existing business relationships, secure additional orders and turn previous engagements into commercial deals.

“The DRC remains a strategic export market for Zambia due to its geographical proximity and demand for a wide range of products and services,” Mfuni said.

She said the agency was facilitating direct business engagements to help local companies access regional markets, improve competitiveness and expand export opportunities.

Mfuni encouraged participating firms to take full advantage of the mission by establishing sustainable business partnerships capable of driving export growth, increasing domestic production, attracting investment and creating jobs.

She said the initiative was in line with the government’s Grow Zambia Agenda, which seeks to accelerate economic growth, expand productive capacity, promote private sector development and increase Zambia’s participation in regional and international trade.

Mfuni said the trade mission reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to promoting Zambian products and services beyond the country’s borders while positioning local businesses to capitalise on emerging opportunities in regional markets.
