Artificial Intelligence (AI), automation, and data analytics should be embraced as catalysts for business transformation rather than perceived as threats, says Janice Matwi, Country Manager of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Zambia.
Speaking in response to a press query ahead of ACCA Zambia’s upcoming pre-Annual General Meeting (pre-AGM) later this month, Matwi highlighted the organisation’s efforts to integrate digital skills into its qualifications and continuous professional development (CPD) programmes.
“Our aim is to equip members with core competencies in data-driven decision-making, AI ethics and governance, and automation strategies in financial operations,” she said.
Matwi noted that ACCA’s Digital Horizon and Transformational Journeys report advocates for a mindset shift — positioning technology as a tool to enhance, not replace, professional judgment.
“This approach reinforces the accountant’s role as a trusted interpreter of digital insights, adding value in an increasingly intelligent, technology-driven business environment,” she added.
This year’s pre-AGM will be held under the theme: “Building Resilient Careers and Organisations in a Changing World.”
According to Matwi, resilience in today’s world is about more than surviving disruption — it’s about agility, adaptability, and the ability to lead effectively through change.
“Leaders and organisations must combine swift decision-making with clarity of purpose, investment in digital tools, and a people-first culture that supports employee well-being and continuous learning,” she explained.
