Chienge Member of Parliament, Given Katuta, has been found with a case to answer in a matter where she is accused of attempting to harm a photojournalist following her ejection from the National Assembly in July 2023.
Lusaka Magistrate, Idah Phiri, delivered the ruling on Wednesday, stating that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against Katuta.
“I am satisfied that the prosecution has made out a prima facie case against the accused. I therefore find her with a case to answer and place her on her defence,” said Magistrate Phiri.
Katuta’s lawyer, State Counsel Chifumu Banda, requested an adjournment to allow time to obtain further instructions from his client.

The court granted the application, and the matter has been adjourned to August, when the defence is expected to open its case.
The charge arises from an incident on July 21, 2023, when Katuta allegedly threatened Times of Zambia photojournalist, Henry Chunza, reportedly chasing him and asking, “Who are you to take photos of me?” after she was ordered out of Parliament.
Following the court session, Katuta left the courtroom with her husband, who initially attempted to block journalists from taking photographs.
She later turned to the press and remarked, “You are happy,” in a tone reflecting her displeasure.
