Police in Ndola launch manhunt for suspect in the defilement case of a reportedly mentally handicapped girl

Police in Ndola have launched a manhunt for man who is on the run after allegedly defiling a suspected mentally challenged girl in Kabushi.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Pathias Siandenge, said in a statement on Thursday that the 15-year-old victim who was born mentally disturbed was alleged defiled by Thomas Mulenga who is her neighbour.

This occurred on unknown date but between December 31, 2024 and May 18, 2025 19:30 hours at the suspect’s residence within Kabushi.

“Brief facts of the matter the victim’s grandmother is a business lady usually leaves the imbecile with other children when she goes to do business at Kabushi Market and on May18,2025 she was home and around 19:00 hours she decided to get her wheel barrow from the neighbour and left the victim at home,” Siandenge said.

She came back after a few minutes and found the victim inside the house crying and when she inquired from the other children she was informed that Thomas Mulenga picked her again and went with her.

He said the grandmother asked the victim who revealed that it was not the first time that Mulenga dragged her into his home and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

Each time he did so he would threaten to kill her using a knife.

Siandenge said a docket for case opened as no arrest had been made yet.

In a related incident, police in Chinsali are searching for Maybin Kabwe, who is accused of defiling his grand daughter, aged eight.

Muchinga Police Commanding officer, Dennis Moola, said in a statement that a girl aged eight, also a grade 1 pupil at Chinsali Day Primary School, was reportedly defiled by her step grandfather, Maybin Kabwe of unknown age, also of Kabuta village.

The victim was found with whitish discharge and blood on her vagina.

Brief facts are that the victim stayed with her mother, Majory Mwenya, in Choshi Village whilst her grandparents stayed in Kabuta village.

During the weekends, the victim used to visit them and spend nights.

One weekend as the victim was alone with her grandfather, Kabwe, during lunch hour, she followed her grandfather to the bedroom where he was sleeping to advise him to go and check on the nshima he was cooking, but instead he called her inside the bedroom undressed her and had canal knowledge of her.

“She never screamed, and when he was done, she told her to dress up and went outside. She never disclosed the ordeal to anyone,” Moola said.

But on May 16, 2025, at around 19:00 hours, the victim and her mother were seated around the fire cooking when the mother saw some blood on the victim’s underwear and asked her to stand up and take off her pants.

She checked her, and there was pus and blood coming from her vagina and on her pants.

She then called one of her neighbours to join the interview.

She later disclosed that it was her step grandfather who once had canal knowledge of her. Her grandmother was also called and informed of the development.

They then reported the matter to the Chinsali Central Police Station.

Acting on the report, he said officers issued a medical report form to the victim, opened the docket, and launched investigations.

“However, no arrest was made as the suspect is on the run. Investigations have been instituted,” Moola said.
