Police in Lufwanyama District have arrested a 41-year-old Chinese national in connection with a Gender-Based Violence case involving a 19-year-old woman.
The suspect, identified as Zhou Juhua of Chief Nkana Area in Lufwanyama, is facing a charge of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm.
Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner Rae Hamoonga said the incident was reported at Lufwanyama Police Station on September 11, 2026 around 16:00 hours.
The victim, Lilian Masaka, 19, of Boma Area in Lufwanyama, alleged that she had been assaulted by a Chinese national whose identity was initially unknown.
Police investigations established that the alleged assault occurred a day earlier on September 10, 2026 around 18:00 hours at an unknown location within Kalulushi District.
“The Zambia Police Service in Lufwanyama District has arrested a 41-year-old Chinese national in connection with a case of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm, classified as a Gender-Based Violence case, involving a 19-year-old woman,” Hamoonga said.
Masaka reported to police that she sustained several injuries during the incident, including an alleged human bite to her left arm.
“She was issued with a medical report form for medical examination and treatment, and the completed form was subsequently retrieved by Police,” Hamoonga stated.
He said medical examination later established that the victim sustained a soft tissue injury to the right wrist.
Following investigations, Police apprehended a Chinese national identified as Zhou Juhua, aged 41, of Chief Nkana Area in Lufwanyama District.

The suspect is currently in police custody at Lufwanyama and is expected to appear in court soon to answer the charge.
“The Zambia Police Service continues to take a firm stance against Gender-Based Violence and all forms of physical abuse, regardless of the nationality or status of the alleged perpetrator,” Hamoonga noted.
He encouraged members of the public to report cases of GBV and other forms of violence to the nearest police station or through established reporting channels.
Hamoonga further urged the public to desist from taking the law into their own hands and to allow investigations to take their course.
He said further updates would be provided on the matter as investigations progressed.
